Savor the Flavor of Oregon
Published in Spiral-bound by Junior League of Eugene (October, 1990)
Author: Jr League of Eugene Oregon
Average review score:

Of My 176 Cookbooks this is the " Most Worn-Out"
I like to consider myself a gourmet cook. I have been a great admirer of Julia Child and even took a short class from her when whe was in Seattle. However, I like to explore new horizons and most recently I got "hooked on" The Junior League Cookbooks. During my travels I always go to the hotel gift shop (or airport) to pick up the state Junior League Cookbook. I hit the "Jackpot" when I bought Oregon's "Savor the Flavor." My girl's all own the cookbook and we write in each others book comments like Great, Fantastic...try this one. Today I am recommending it for my book study club. Close behind I would rate the two Seattle and San Francisco Junior League Cookbooks. As my husband said, "If you find one great recipe in a cookbook than it is worth the price of the book." Well, this is worth gold!

Schaum's Outline of Mathematica
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Trade (30 September, 2000)
Author: Eugene Don
Average review score:

Schaum's Mathematica is a great introduction.
This is an excellent introduction to Mathematica. I have suggested that they include this with each copy of the software and offer it (free?) to prospective buyers. A great review of the basic aspects of a very extensive software application.

Secret of the Black Widow
Published in Paperback by White Mane Publishing Co. (June, 2002)
Author: Eugene M. Gagliano
Average review score:

Great Character Lessons!
This book offers a great combination of high interest events, suspense, emotion, friendship, and lessons about accepting others. Despite his friends' persuasion, Chad is able to do the right thing, to be his own person, and show that friendship can be found in unlikely places. The setting is Wyoming Territory, 1890, but the theme of this story is timeless. Well-developed characters carry the story through the unforgettable ending!

Self, God and Immortality: A Jamesian Investigation
Published in Textbook Binding by Temple Univ Press (August, 1986)
Author: Eugene Fontinell
Average review score:

Belief in a personal immortality can be energizing
Drawing upon the works of William James and the principles of American Pragmatism, Eugene Fontinell addresses the question of whether or not we who have been affected by the scientific, intellectual, and experimental revolutions of modern and contemporary times still hold a coherent and consistent belief in an immortality for individual human beings. Self, God, And Immortality: A Jamesian Investigation also examines the present relationship of reason to faith -- and if there are justifying reasons for faith. Fontinell shows that, far from diverting attention and energies from the crucial tasks confronting us here and now, belief in a personal immortality can be energizing and life enhancing, as well as stimulating co-operative efforts to create a richer and more humane community. Self, God, And Immortality is emphatically recommended reading for students of religion, spirituality, philosophy, and metaphysics.

Sexuality and the Christian Body: Their Way into the Triune God (Challenges in Contemporary Theology)
Published in Paperback by Blackwell Publishers (July, 1999)
Author: Eugene F. Rogers
Average review score:

A must read for those concerned about the church
For those who are concerned about the church and her seemingly inability to speak clearly and faithfully about ethical subjects this is a must read. Eugene Rogers has shown an ability to be compassionate, just, and clear all with an eye on the church and her savior. Eugene should be commended for taking the high road of discussion with odd partners as opposed to just another book with those he already agrees. Read this book!

Shakespeare's Language
Published in Paperback by Checkmark Books (June, 1999)
Author: Eugene F. Shewmaker
Average review score:

Convenient, comprehensive glossary.
As Shewmaker points out, the reader of Shakespeare is often stymied by unfamiliar, archaic, or confusing words in the texts of the great master, and if footnotes are given, they are often at the rear of the book, disrupting the reader's concentration and making difficult what should be a pleasure.
The editor/compiler has consulted the leading texts and interpreters to provide 15,000 of these words and phrases to include the definition, the quote placing it in context, geographical references, foreign-language expressions, and the mythological allusions which are so much a part the richness of Shakespeare's works and our cultural heritage.
Highly recommended as the essential companion for anyone seeking the immeasurable pleasures of Shakespeare.

Silent Partners: The Legacy of the Ape Language Experiments
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (July, 1987)
Author: Eugene Linden
Average review score:

Horrifying Look at a Shameful Legacy
Linden's report is one of the most disturbing books I've ever read. It reveals how some of the superstars of the ape language experiments of the '70s, as well as several lesser-known primate research subjects, were callously discarded after the funding (and subsequently interest) dried up. With a few happy exceptions, their lives are now miserable -- or over.

It's as bad as the chimps from the space program, who after years of careful training were sold to laboratories for medical experiments. Most of Linden's subjects -- after being reared in human company and taught to use sign language or symbol-boards -- were sold to laboratories, placed in zoos, or attempted to return to the wild (with disasterous results).

The image of a despondent gorilla in a dank concrete zoo cage, signing desperately to passers-by "get me out, get me out!" will haunt me forever.
